Youth Writing Contest
Demonstrate your research and writing skills with a short essay or
multimedia presentation.
The Oregon State Grange Membership Committee is offering a writing
competition to young people in the eastern Oregon counties of Baker, Crook,
Gilliam, Harney, Malheur, Morrow, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa, and Wheeler.
Entries will compete in two age groups: 10 to 14 year old, and 15 to 21 years
of age. Cash prizes of $100, $75, $50 for first, second, and third will be
awarded in each age group.
Theme:
What is a Grange? What can it mean to my community and me?
Discussion topics may include some of the following:
1. The Grange Today
2. Grange Accomplishments
3. Grange History
4. Grange Ceremonies and Traditions
Extra points will be awarded for visiting with a Grange member or attending a Grange
meeting.
For the 10 to 14 year-old age group, the essay should be at least 500 words.
For the 15 to 21 year-old age group, the essay should be at least 1,000 words.
An informative multimedia presentation of five to 10 minutes may be created instead of
a written essay. Essays should not be generated through the use of AI tools. Oregon
State Grange will have the right to publish winning entries.
Contest entries must be post-marked or received electronically by January 15th, 2026.

Entries will be judged by the Oregon State Grange Membership Committee, and
announcement of results by March 1st, 2026.
